Get to know Professor Christopher Edwards



Professor Edwards is a clinical rheumatologist with research interests and expertise in the epidemiology and treatment of inflammatory rheumatic diseases including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.


Professor Edwards trained under Professor Hughes at St Thomas’ Hospital, and at the Hammersmith Hospital and the Kennedy Institute in London. He also spent a year treating lupus patients in Singapore.

Professor Edwards’ current research focusses on understanding the causes of inflammatory rheumatic diseases including lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. He is also working on projects looking at the epidemiology of rheumatoid arthritis and the predictors of joint replacement in inflammatory rheumatic diseases as an honorary senior research fellow at the University of Oxford.


Professor Edwards’ particular research interests are the effects of the environment on lupus and new biologic therapies for the treatment of lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
